Fuelled SEO is a technical SEO agency for Australian businesses whose websites aren’t performing in Google the way they should. Good content and strong links only work if search engines can find, crawl, render and index your pages properly. When the technical foundations are broken, everything built on top of them underperforms. We find the faults, explain them in plain English, and fix them or brief your developer on exactly what to change.
Fuelled SEO is run by Darren Franklin from Kurri Kurri in the Hunter Valley, near Newcastle NSW. The work is remote, so we work with businesses anywhere in Australia. Technical work is one part of what we do as an SEO company, and it is usually where we start.
What technical SEO is (and isn’t)
Technical SEO is the work that helps search engines access and understand your site. It covers how pages are discovered, which ones get indexed, how fast they load, how they’re linked together and how clearly their content is marked up. It isn’t keyword research or writing blog posts, although technical problems often explain why good content isn’t ranking.
If you want the background first, our technical SEO basics guide explains the main ideas without jargon.
Our technical SEO services
Crawling and indexing
We crawl your site the way a search engine does and compare that with what Google Search Console reports. The common findings are important pages that aren’t indexed, low-value pages that are, pages blocked by mistake, and pages Google has found but chosen not to index. Each one has a different cause and a different fix.
Site architecture and internal links
Your most important pages should be reachable in a few clicks from the homepage and linked from related pages with descriptive anchor text. We map how pages connect, find orphan pages with no internal links, and restructure menus, hubs and in-content links so authority flows to the pages that matter.
Redirects and 404 errors
Site rebuilds, deleted products and changed URLs leave behind broken links and redirect chains. A redirect that hops three or four times slows crawling and can lose value along the way. We find 404s that still receive links or traffic, point them to the best matching page with 301 redirects, and collapse chains into single hops.
Canonical tags and duplicate content
Duplicate pages are common: http and https versions, www and non-www, trailing slashes, URL parameters, print versions and filtered listings. Canonical tags tell Google which version you want ranked. We check every canonical points to the right URL and that internal links, sitemaps and canonicals all agree.
XML sitemaps and robots.txt
Your sitemap should list only the pages you want indexed, and your robots.txt should block only what you don’t want crawled. We regularly find sitemaps full of redirected or noindexed URLs and robots.txt files blocking CSS, JavaScript or whole sections by accident.
Core Web Vitals and page speed
Google measures loading (Largest Contentful Paint), responsiveness (Interaction to Next Paint) and visual stability (Cumulative Layout Shift). We test your main templates on mobile, identify what’s slowing them down, such as heavy images, render-blocking scripts, third-party tags or slow hosting, and prioritise fixes by impact.
Structured data
Schema markup helps search engines understand what a page is about: a business, a product, an article, an FAQ or a service. We check existing markup for errors, remove conflicting or duplicate schema, and add types that suit your pages.
JavaScript rendering
Sites built with JavaScript frameworks, or that load content after the page appears, can look complete to a visitor but empty to a crawler. We compare the raw HTML with the rendered page to see whether your main content, links and metadata are visible to search engines, and recommend server-side rendering or other fixes where they aren’t.
AI crawler access
AI search tools and assistants use their own crawlers. If your robots.txt, firewall or CDN settings block them, your content can’t be used or cited in AI-generated answers. We check which crawlers can reach your site and help you decide which to allow. Our AI SEO service covers this area in more depth.
How our technical SEO agency works
Technical findings feed into the same five-step process we use on every project:
- A deep technical and backlink profile audit.
- Competitor gap analysis and an anchor text strategy.
- Custom prospecting and manual blogger outreach.
- High-value content creation and editorial placement.
- Indexation verification and transparent monthly reporting.
The last step matters for technical work. Fixing an issue is only half the job; checking that Google has re-crawled and indexed the corrected pages is the other half. We track that and report on it each month.
Once the foundations are sound, rankings in competitive markets usually need links as well. Our link building services use ethical, white-hat, 100% non-PBN outreach on real websites.
Technical SEO for different platforms
Every platform has its own habits. Shopify creates duplicate product paths and filter URLs, covered on our Shopify SEO page. WordPress sites tend to suffer from plugin bloat and thin archives, covered on our WordPress SEO page. Large sites with thousands of pages need crawl budget and template-level fixes, which our enterprise SEO services handle. Sites targeting more than one country need hreflang and regional setup, covered under international SEO.

Technical SEO FAQs
Do I need technical SEO if my site is new?
Yes. Checking indexing, sitemaps, robots.txt and speed at launch is far cheaper than finding problems months later when pages aren’t ranking.
Can you make the fixes yourselves?
Many fixes on WordPress and Shopify sites can be made directly with the right access. On custom-built sites we write clear briefs for your developer and check the work once it’s live.
How often should a technical audit be done?
A full audit after any rebuild, migration or major change, and a lighter check every few months. Ongoing clients get indexation checks as part of monthly reporting.
Will fixing technical issues alone get me to page one?
Not usually. Technical SEO removes barriers, but rankings also depend on relevant content and links. It does make every other SEO effort work better.
Should I block AI crawlers?
That’s a business decision. Blocking them can keep your content out of AI answers, so we explain the trade-off and set robots.txt to match what you want.
