Fuelled SEO provides local SEO services for Australian businesses that want more calls, bookings and walk-ins from people nearby. When someone searches “plumber near me” or “dentist Maitland”, Google shows a map with three businesses before the regular results. Getting into that map pack, and ranking well below it, depends on your Google Business Profile, your reviews, your citations, your location pages and the local links pointing to your site. We work on all of them.
Fuelled SEO is run by Darren Franklin from Kurri Kurri in the Hunter Valley, near Newcastle NSW. We work with businesses in Newcastle, the Hunter, Maitland, the Central Coast and across Australia. The work is remote, so you don’t need to be local to us. Local SEO is one part of our wider work as an SEO agency.
How local search works
For searches with local intent, Google weighs three broad factors: relevance (how well your business matches the search), distance (how close you are to the searcher or the location named) and prominence (how well known and trusted your business is, based on reviews, links, mentions and more). You can’t change your address, but you can improve relevance and prominence a great deal. Our Google Maps ranking factors guide explains each factor in detail.
What our local SEO services include
Google Business Profile
Your Google Business Profile is often the first thing a local customer sees. We check and complete every section: the right primary and secondary categories, services, service areas, hours, attributes, description, photos and products. We also make sure your name, address and phone number match your website exactly. If you want a one-off setup or clean-up, our Google Business Profile package is $850.
Getting into the map pack
The map pack shows only three businesses, so small improvements matter. Beyond your profile, we look at how your website supports it: a clear location and service page for the profile to link to, local schema markup, an embedded map, and consistent business details across the site.
Reviews
Reviews affect both rankings and whether people choose you. We help you set up a simple process for asking customers for Google reviews, such as a short link or a follow-up message after a job, and give guidance on replying to reviews, including negative ones. We never write or buy reviews; that breaks Google’s policies and puts your profile at risk.
NAP citations
NAP stands for name, address and phone number. Directories, industry sites and data aggregators all list business details, and inconsistent or outdated listings confuse Google and customers. We audit your existing citations, correct errors, remove duplicates and add listings on relevant Australian and industry directories.
Location pages done properly
If you serve several suburbs or towns, location pages can help you rank in each one. They can also go badly wrong. Pages that are identical apart from a swapped town name are doorway pages, which Google’s spam policies target, and they rarely rank for long.
A proper location page is useful to someone in that area. It might cover the services you offer there, how quickly you can attend, local projects or conditions, parking or access details, and answers to questions customers in that area ask. We only build location pages where you serve the area and have something real to say about it, and we keep the number sensible.
Local links
Links from local websites tell Google your business is part of the community. Good sources include local business associations, chambers of commerce, sponsorships of local clubs and events, suppliers and partners, and local news and blogs. Alongside these, our link building services use manual blogger outreach on real, established websites. All our link building is ethical, white-hat and 100% non-PBN.
Local SEO for service-area businesses
Many trades and mobile services don’t have a shopfront. Plumbers, electricians, cleaners, mobile mechanics and mobile dog groomers travel to the customer. Google lets service-area businesses hide their address and list the areas they serve instead. You’ll usually rank strongest close to your verified address, so we build visibility further out through service pages, area pages written with care, reviews from customers in those areas, and local links.
If you’re a tradie, see our SEO for tradies hub, including pages on SEO for plumbers and SEO for electricians.
Choosing a local SEO agency
A good local SEO agency should explain what they’ll change, show you the results in plain terms and never promise a guaranteed number one spot. When you work with us, our process has five steps:
- A deep technical and backlink profile audit.
- Competitor gap analysis and an anchor text strategy.
- Custom prospecting and manual blogger outreach.
- High-value content creation and editorial placement.
- Indexation verification and transparent monthly reporting.
Local SEO Australia-wide
Local SEO works the same way in every city, but competition varies a lot. Ranking a café in a regional town is a very different job from ranking a law firm in central Sydney. Because the work is remote, we can help a business targeting any market, such as Maitland, the Central Coast, Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne.

Local SEO FAQs
How long does it take to get into the Google map pack?
It depends on competition and how far you are from the searcher. Profile fixes can help within weeks, but consistent map pack visibility usually takes a few months of reviews, citations and links.
Can I rank in suburbs where I don’t have an address?
Yes, mainly in the regular organic results, through useful service area pages and local links. Map pack rankings are harder far from your verified address.
Should I create a page for every suburb I serve?
Only where you have something useful and specific to say. Dozens of near-identical suburb pages are treated as doorway pages and can hurt your site.
Do you write reviews for my business?
No. Fake reviews break Google’s policies. We help you build a process for asking real customers for reviews.
Do I need to be in Newcastle to work with you?
No. We work remotely with businesses across Australia, so your location doesn’t matter.
