Shopify SEO Agency

Fuelled SEO is a Shopify SEO agency for Australian online stores that want more sales from Google without paying for every click. Shopify is a solid platform, but it has a handful of built-in quirks that hold stores back in search: duplicate product URLs, thin collection pages, filter pages that get indexed, and apps that slow the theme down. We find those problems, fix what can be fixed, and then build the content and links your store needs to rank.

Fuelled SEO is run by Darren Franklin from Kurri Kurri in the Hunter Valley, near Newcastle NSW. The work is done remotely, so it doesn’t matter where your store is based. If you want the wider picture of how we work, start with our Australian SEO agency page.

What our Shopify SEO services cover

Shopify SEO services are not the same as general SEO with a different logo on the report. The platform controls a lot of your URL structure, templates and technical setup, so the job is part working within those limits and part working around them.

  • A technical review of how Google crawls and indexes your store
  • Fixing duplicate URLs and checking canonical tags
  • Controlling which filter and tag pages get indexed
  • Speed work, including auditing the apps installed on your theme
  • Writing and improving collection and product page content
  • Checking and extending structured data (product schema)
  • Image alt text and file naming
  • Planning and writing blog content that supports your collections
  • Multi-region setup with Shopify Markets
  • Link building to your homepage, collections and best products

Common Shopify SEO problems we fix

Duplicate /collections/…/products/ URLs

Shopify can reach the same product through more than one address. A product might live at /products/blue-runner and also at /collections/shoes/products/blue-runner. Many themes link to the longer collection-based version from collection grids, which means Google keeps finding a URL you don’t want ranked.

Shopify adds a canonical tag pointing to the main /products/ URL, which helps, but canonical tags are a hint, not a rule. If your internal links all point at the duplicate, you are sending mixed signals. We check how your theme builds product links and, where needed, edit the theme so internal links point straight to the canonical URL.

Canonical tags that don’t match

Some themes and apps overwrite or duplicate the canonical tag, or set it wrongly on paginated collections and variant URLs. We crawl the store, compare the canonical on each page with the URL that should rank, and fix the template code or app settings causing the mismatch.

Faceted filters and tag pages

Filtering by size, colour or price creates new URLs with parameters or tags. On a store with a few hundred products that can turn into thousands of near-identical pages. Google wastes time crawling them and may index weak versions instead of your main collections.

We decide which filtered views are worth ranking (for example “black leather boots” might deserve its own collection) and which should be kept out of the index with noindex rules or robots.txt directives. The useful ones get turned into proper collections with their own content.

Apps slowing your theme

Every review widget, upsell popup and chat tool you install can add scripts that load on every page. Even after an app is uninstalled, leftover code often stays in the theme. Slow pages hurt Core Web Vitals and conversion rates. We list every script loading on your key templates, flag the heavy ones, and work with you on what to remove, defer or replace.

Shopify SEO for collection and product pages

Collection pages are usually your best chance to rank for broad, high-volume searches such as “women’s running shoes”. Yet many stores have nothing on them except a grid of products. We write a short, useful intro above the grid and a longer section below it covering sizing, materials, use cases and buying questions.

Product pages need their own unique descriptions. Copying the manufacturer’s text puts you on the same footing as every other stockist using that same text. We rewrite descriptions for your priority products, tidy up title tags and meta descriptions, and make sure each page answers the questions buyers ask before they add to cart.

Structured data

Most Shopify themes include basic product schema, but it is often incomplete. Price, availability, brand, SKU and review data all help Google show richer results. We test your templates, fill gaps, and make sure review apps aren’t creating duplicate or conflicting markup.

Image alt text

Shopify stores are image-heavy, and alt text is often left blank or filled with the file name. We write descriptive alt text for product and collection images so they can appear in Google Images and so the page is more accessible to screen reader users.

Blog content that supports your store

The built-in Shopify blog is basic, but it works. Buying guides, comparisons and how-to articles can bring in people earlier in their research and pass internal links to your collections. We plan topics around what your customers search for, not just what’s trending, and link each article to the products and collections it relates to.

Shopify Markets and multi-region stores

If you sell to New Zealand, the UK or the US as well as Australia, Shopify Markets can create regional versions of your store with their own currency, pricing and subfolders. Done well, it gives Google clear hreflang signals about which version to show in each country. Done badly, it creates duplicate content across regions. We check your Markets setup, hreflang output and regional content. For a fuller plan, see our international SEO service.

Hiring a Shopify SEO expert: how we work

When you hire a Shopify SEO expert at Fuelled SEO, the work follows five steps:

  1. A deep technical and backlink profile audit of your store.
  2. Competitor gap analysis and an anchor text strategy.
  3. Custom prospecting and manual blogger outreach.
  4. High-value content creation and editorial placement.
  5. Indexation verification and transparent monthly reporting.

Links matter for Shopify stores as much as any other site. Our link building services use ethical, white-hat, 100% non-PBN outreach on real, established websites. For deeper crawl and indexing work beyond Shopify-specific issues, see our technical SEO services. If you run a store on another platform, our ecommerce SEO page covers the broader approach, and our WordPress SEO page covers WooCommerce.

Shopify SEO FAQs

Is Shopify bad for SEO?

No. Shopify handles a lot of basics well, including SSL, sitemaps and default canonical tags. The issues come from duplicate product URLs, indexed filter pages, thin collections and app bloat, which can all be managed.

Can you change Shopify’s URL structure?

Shopify fixes the /products/ and /collections/ prefixes, so those can’t be removed. We focus on what can be controlled: internal links, canonical tags, indexing rules and the handles after the prefix.

Do I need to give you access to my Shopify admin?

For ongoing work such as theme edits and content updates, yes. Staff access to your store makes the work much faster.

Will removing apps break my store?

It can if it is done carelessly. We list what each script does, agree changes with you first, and check the store after any app is removed or replaced.

How is Shopify SEO different from ecommerce SEO?

Ecommerce SEO is the broader discipline for any online store. Shopify SEO applies it to Shopify’s specific templates, URL rules, apps and Markets features.
